Frequently Asked Questions

These are the most commonly asked questions I get from couples looking to book a wedding photographer, if you have any Q’s that’s not answered, please feel free to get in touch.

Q. You are based in Nottingham, how far do you travel?

Being in Nottingham has its benefits… well it has one!

Being smack bang in the middle of the country means I can get north, south, east, and west without too much fuss.

Every wedding season, I travel the length of the UK, capturing weddings.

Q. How do we book?

The first step is to get in touch to see if I’m free to photograph your wedding; you can do this via the contact page or drop me an email or a text / WhatsApp.

After the initial contact, I can either send you a booking form, or you can book an informal chat HERE.

Q. Can you hold our date?

Unfortunately, no matter how nicely you ask, I cannot hold any dates!

Due to the number of enquiries I receive and my limits on 20-25 weddings per year, your wedding date is only secure once you have completed the booking form, digitally signed the contract, and paid the £300 non-refundable booking fee.

Q. How many images do we get?

Every wedding is different; however, a typical (for me) 10-hour wedding gallery delivered would be in the region of 400-700 individual images.

I do not put a lower limit or an upper limit on the number of images I deliver.

Q. How do you deliver the images?

All the images are delivered via my secure online gallery system.

From here, you can download, share, create your favourites list, and even order prints and frames.

All images are delivered in high resolution and free from watermarks.

Q. Do you do family formals?

Although I am a documentary wedding photographer, I appreciate that some couples will want some traditional group photos.

I recommend that you stick to no more than six traditional group shots, and with the aid of one or more family members / ushers / Groomsmen / Bridesmaid, we will do these very quickly as guests do not want to be stood around.

Q. Do you do engagement or pre-wedding shoots?

Nope, I do not offer any engagement or pre-wedding shoots.

My style is documentary, engagement or pre-wedding shoots are very much hands-on with direction, and this is not something I like or feel comfortable doing.

Q. How long does it take till we get our wedding photos?

Your entire wedding gallery will be delivered within four weeks.

I do offer a 7-Day Express Turnaround at a cost of £250; this can be booked via the booking form.

Q. How much is the booking fee? and when do we have to pay the final balance?

Once you have completed the booking form and signed the contract, you will be taken to a payments page where I ask for a £300 non-refundable booking fee.

The booking fee can be paid via, debit / credit card, Paypal, or, ideally, bank transfer.

The final balance for your wedding photography and any options (wedding album design or photofilms) is due six weeks before the wedding date and will be stated in the wedding contract, the final balance payment must be via bank transfer.

Q. Do we meet before the wedding?

Around eight weeks before the wedding, I will be in contact to arrange our final pre-wedding meeting, ideally done via Zoom or Google Meet.

This final meet-up can be in person if you are local to me, but for most couples, online is preferred.

Before the final meeting, I will ask you to fill out a wedding questionnaire, which covers the timings, locations, formal photographs, and reconfirming contact details; the completed questionnaire will then be the basis for our final meeting.

Q. Can we order prints and products?

Absolutely!

It’s so important to print your favourite images, and via your online wedding gallery, you have so many ways to print and display your wedding images, from wedding albums, canvases, matted frames, standard prints and even stunning acrylic prints.

Q. Can we send you a Pinterest Board?

Nah.

I can only photograph weddings the way I do as I see the world in my way.

If you do have a Pinterest board and it’s different from weddings here on my website, you would be 100% better off looking at someone who will be able to recreate your Pinterest board.

I can’t and won’t change how I see weddings and the images I capture.

Q. Do you offer a second photographer?

Yes, I offer a second photographer as an optional paid extra; I work closely with a group of wedding photographer friends, and we often second shoot for each other throughout the year.

The cost is £450.

Q. Are you insured?

Absolutely, and so should all your wedding suppliers.

I’m insured for public liability and professional indemnity; copies of both are available should the venue request them.

Q. Do you have any recommendations for other wedding suppliers?

Yes I do! If you are looking for other amazing people to help with your wedding, I can certainly point you in the direction of some amazing people.

Q. Can we have the RAW files?

If you would like the original unedited RAW files from your wedding, these can be purchased after the wedding via your online gallery; they are not included as standard.

  • £500 for a digital download of the RAW files for all images delivered.

  • £600 for an SSD drive of delivered RAW files for all images delivered.

  • £700 for a digital download of RAW files for both delivered and none delivered images.

  • £800 for an SSD drive of RAW files for both delivered and none delivered images.

Q. Can you take pictures of both of us getting ready?

Yes, if the timings work.

For couples who are getting ready at the same location, this is nice and straightforward.

For couples getting ready at different locations, I can capture images of both of you getting prepared as long as the timeline works (time of getting ready, travel times, and coverage limits).

Please don’t bend your wedding day to make this work, as it can lead to a more stressful wedding; a second photographer can be added if this coverage is necessary.

Q. What happens if you are ill?

Touch wood, I have never missed a wedding and have no intention of missing one.

However, if something serious has happened and I cannot be at your wedding, I would put you in touch with a few photographers of a similar style and standard as me.

You can decide who to go with, either through a recommendation from me or someone else you prefer.

Monies paid to me would be refunded, allowing you to move forward with another photographer.

Q. What cameras do you use? What happens if something breaks!?

I photograph every wedding with three flagship Sony cameras.

I use two Sony A1’s and an A9ii; these flagship cameras from Sony allow me to photograph in pure silence no matter the situation.

Backup cameras (yes, more cameras) are kept in the car should more than one camera fail (I've never had a camera fail at a wedding).

Camera lenses; A wedding day is captured with three lenses (20mm, 35mm, 50mm) - this combo has worked for me for the last 200 weddings.

Backup lenses (24mm, 85mm and 135mm) are either in the backpack with me at the wedding or in the car.

Q. How do you keep our images safe after the wedding?

Brilliant question!

One part of the wedding photography process that some couples and some wedding photographers neglect is ensuring that the wedding photos are backed-up in more than one location, ideally two or three locations.

Q. Do you Have any advice for us? It’s all bit overwhelming.

Having photographed well over 200 weddings, I have put together a few helpful hints and tips articles which can help with the wedding day. Some articles cover unplugged weddings, wedding speech timings, family formals, walking down the aisle, and more.

Wedding Hints & Tips

Q. Do you need feeding?

I always bring my own food to weddings as I like to eat when the time allows.

Often with wedding venues, the ‘supplier’ food is bought out last and can sometimes be bought out when the speeches are about to start…

Some soft drinks throughout the day would be lovely, but please do not feel the need to pay for food for me.

Q. Do you take any couples portraits?

Most of my couples feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, which is perfectly fine and understandable.

I offer three options for couples portraits on a wedding day.

To watch me talk about them click HERE.

Q. Do we get colour and B&W images?

Yes, all images, where possible, are delivered in both colour and black & white.

Q. What can we do with the images? Do we own copyright?

Copyright of the photos will always stay with me as they are my intellectual property.

However, you have the licence to do anything you like with the images (except sell them without my consent); this is stated in the contact for you.

This all sounds very legal, and I suppose it is.

Ultimately, you can do everything you need to do with the images; you can print, share, download, post on socials, make your own album, make your own slideshow, show them on your own web-site.

Here is a link to the gov.uk site with further information on Copyright (partway down is an example covering wedding photography).

Q. Is this your only job?

Oh yes! and I love it!

Q. Do you do wedding albums?

Photographs always look better in print, and a wedding album is a fantastic legacy; my wedding albums are handmade in Italy using the very best printing technologies.

Prices for wedding albums start at £350.
