Swancar Farm Wedding Guide
What It’s Really Like & Tips From a Photographer
If you’re planning a wedding at Swancar Farm Country House, it’s one of those venues that just makes things easy.
I’ve photographed a number of weddings here over the years, and it’s clear the whole place has been designed with weddings in mind — everything flows well, the spaces are close together, and it’s set up perfectly for a relaxed day.
This isn’t a sales pitch — just a helpful guide based on real experience of photographing weddings at Swancar Farm.
What It’s Like To Get Married At Swancar Farm
Swancar Farm is a country house wedding venue just outside Nottingham, set in open countryside.
It’s a proper all-in-one venue, which makes a big difference on the day.
You’ve got:
Getting ready on-site
Ceremony and reception all in one place
Indoor and outdoor space for guests
Accommodation on-site
👉 That means no travelling around, no awkward gaps, and no waiting around for things to happen.
Everything flows naturally, which helps:
guests settle in quickly
the atmosphere feel relaxed
and you actually get to enjoy the day
Ceremony Options at Swancar Farm
Swancar Farm offers two indoor ceremony spaces, and they both feel quite different — so it’s worth thinking about which suits your day best.
The Gallery (Upper Barn)
The Gallery is the more intimate ceremony space.
It’s up on the upper floor of the barn, with:
exposed wooden beams
chandeliers
a really warm, enclosed feel
👉 It works really well for:
smaller to mid-sized weddings
more intimate ceremonies
couples wanting a cosy atmosphere
From a photography point of view, it’s a bit tighter and more enclosed — which actually helps create a really nice atmosphere and keeps everything focused on the ceremony itself.
One thing to keep in mind:
👉 There’s no wheelchair access to this space, so it’s worth considering your guest list when choosing it.
The Glass Barn (Lower Barn)
The Glass Barn is a newer addition and feels completely different.
It’s:
bright
open
and much more spacious
Located on the lower level, just off the courtyard, it also has full accessibility — which can make a big difference for guests.
👉 This space works really well for:
larger weddings
couples wanting more space
a lighter, more open feel
From a photography point of view, the natural light here is a big advantage — everything feels softer and more relaxed.
The Flow Of The Day
This is where Swancar really stands out.
Everything is designed so the day just… flows.
Guests move easily between ceremony, drinks, and reception
There’s no long walks between spaces
And nothing feels disjointed
👉 That makes a big difference.
It keeps the day relaxed and gives loads of opportunities for natural, candid moments — people chatting, laughing, and just enjoying themselves.
That said, once everything is underway, it works really well.
Guests have plenty of space to move around
There are lots of areas for mingling
And everything links together nicely between ceremony, drinks, and reception
👉 The key here is not overcomplicating things.
Keeping movements simple and giving yourself time between parts of the day makes a big difference.
Best Spots For Photos
You don’t need to go far at Swancar — everything is right there.
Some of the best areas are:
The courtyard
The gardens around the venue
The driveway and surrounding countryside
👉 The key is keeping it simple.
A quick 10–15 minute wander is usually more than enough to get relaxed couple photos without missing time with your guests.
Tips For A Relaxed Wedding At Swancar Farm
After photographing weddings here, a few things always make a big difference:
Choose the right ceremony space
The Gallery and Glass Barn feel very different — picking the one that suits your vibe makes a big difference to the day.
Keep group photos short
A small list (around 5–6 groups) keeps things quick and avoids turning it into a long photoshoot.
Make the most of the courtyard
It’s a great central space for drinks, mingling, and natural moments.
Don’t disappear for too long
Everything you need is close by — there’s no need to go off for ages for photos.
Give yourself breathing room
Even just 15–20 minutes after the ceremony makes everything feel more relaxed.
