WOLLATON HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Faith and Tim chose the iconic and historic Wollaton Hall as the backdrop for their Humanist-led wedding ceremony and reception.
My day began with Faith getting ready at Hugh Stewart House on the Nottingham University campus, surrounded by her bridesmaids and her mum. By the time I arrived, hair and makeup were already done, and the girls were relaxing in the guest lounge, enjoying a quiet moment together before it was time to slip into their dresses.
Their wedding took place on the hottest day of the year in September 2023, and because of the heat, Faith opted to get ready in the sitting room rather than the main bedroom of Hugh Stewart House.
One of her bridesmaids helped her into the dress—a moment I always love capturing. From adjusting the gown to fluffing the fabric, fastening shoes, and placing the veil, these final touches are when the reality of the day truly sets in for the bride. It's a beautiful transition, as excitement and anticipation build toward the ceremony ahead.
Once Faith was in the wedding dress, it was time for Mum and Dad to see her. Dad got a little emotional, and Mum looked so proud.
The only hiccup of the day? The wedding cars never showed up to take the bridesmaids, Faith, and her parents to Wollaton Hall. But hey, that’s what Uber is for!
When I arrived at Wollaton Hall, Tim and his groomsmen were already at the front of the ceremony room, waiting. After a quick handshake and hello, I moved around the room to capture the guests as they eagerly awaited the ceremony.
If you look through the gallery below, you’ll notice guests fanning themselves with handheld fans—and for good reason. It was the hottest day of the year, and with Wollaton Hall being a Grade-listed site, air conditioning isn’t an option, and the windows had to remain closed.
The aisle shots from this wedding are some of the most dramatic I’ve captured in a while. The way the light poured in through the grand windows, illuminating the aisle and the back of the room, created a natural spotlight, drawing all attention to those making their way toward the altar.
The wedding ceremony was a humanist ceremony, which means the ceremony is about the people rather than the legal aspects of getting married, with the ceremony conducted by one of Tim's closest friends. (if you want to know more about the different wedding ceremonies in the UK, click HERE).
Once the wedding ceremony was done, it was outside onto the balcony for a big group shop, a photo that Faith and Tim wanted, and then it was time for them to get covered in confetti!
The drinks reception took place at Camellia House, just a short walk from the back of Wollaton Hall. Thankfully, it provided plenty of shade, offering guests a much-needed break from the heat and sun.
With prosecco flowing, canapés enjoyed, and a few formal photos captured, it was soon time to make our way back up to Wollaton Hall for the wedding breakfast, heartfelt speeches, and an unforgettable evening celebration.
I absolutely loved my first experience at Wollaton Hall—it's an incredible venue for a wedding. The rooms are rich with history and character, and everywhere you turn, there's a breathtaking backdrop, making it a dream setting for photography.
