SHOTTLE HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Hailey and Dan were one of so many UK couples who had to postpone their original 2020 wedding date due to the COVID pandemic, but the 2021 wedding was worth the wait!
I was really worried a few weeks before the wedding when a message popped up on my watch which said, "Hi Andy, unfortunately, we are....' I feared the worst; a few of my couples were postponing again in 2021 due to family members or friends coming down with the virus.
I clicked the message, and thankfully it was just Hailey telling me that they were moving the whole day to Shottle Hall rather than just having the party there in the afternoon... phew!
The wedding day started at Hailey and Dan's house, where Hailey, her sister, mum and maid of honour were getting ready.
It was a nice morning, zero stress with people chilling watching the TV, and a few drinks - all very calm.
There is one image that stands out for me from the morning, and that's the image of Hailey having her make-up done but with Dad outside having a cup of tea. I'm always trying to tell a story from an image, always looking to combine different things in a scene which helps to tell the viewer what's happening - and this is one such photo.
Once the girls were finished with the hair and make-up, it was upstairs to help Hailey get into her wedding dress - another amazing wedding dress from the girls at the Bridal Suite.
Once Hailey was in her dress, and after Dad had seen Hailey in the wedding dress, it was time for me to leave as Shottle Hall was a good 45 minutes drive.
When I arrived at Shottle Hall, most of the guests were mingling in the bar, waiting to be called into the ceremony room.
The Lounge is the licenced room for civil wedding ceremonies at Shottle Hall; the big windows, the log fire, and the countryside views make it a beautiful room to get married in.
The civil ceremony was a quick one; since the start of the pandemic, the registrars have been really quick in getting the legal bits done, and most of the time now, the couples no longer sign a wedding register; it's now a single piece of A4 paper.
After the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds headed outside, where the Ushers had got everyone waiting with the confetti.
The nice thing about Shottle Hall is it's an exclusive-use venue, meaning that you have use of the whole venue and grounds. Sometimes a wedding venue will have other events on at the same time or be open to the public.
Once the wedding snacks had been eaten and the formals were done, it was off to the Coach House Marquee, where the wedding reception was being held.
The speeches were up first, with Hailey's Dad giving an emotional speech, followed by Dan and then Dan's brother, who was the best man.
After the food and been served, it was off outside for the guests to enjoy the late summer sunshine before heading back in for the cake cut, first dance and the all-important boogie on the dancefloor.
This was my first visit to Shottle Hall, and I really enjoyed it; such a nice venue and nice staff who were very helpful, oh and Hailey and Dan were amazing!
