Now, I'm going to be honest with you; there are many things in this world that I can do; I'm not bad at wedding photography, I know how to rustle up something to eat for dinner, I can hold a fairly decent level of conversation on sports, cars, politics and finance.... but.... Wedding Dresses - no idea!
I love watching Don't Tell The Bride, where the Bride-To-Be tries on her dream wedding dress; it's beautiful, it looks amazing, fits perfectly, and the colour matches her dream wedding theme, but then it cuts to the Groom who is buying her a camouflaged bikini wedding dress which is yellow and leaves nothing to the imagination... you know it's not going to end well.
Thankfully in the real world, we blokes very rarely get involved in wedding dress shopping it's normally down to the girls to do the googling, to do the Pinterest board with all the design, the colours, the shapes and all the details.
I'm going to go off on a tangent here, so bear with me, but, if anyone watches Location, Location, Location with Phil and Kirsty; you will know that Kirsty always bangs on about going out and seeing houses and not just flicking through Rightmove and not to discount something unless you have been and seen it - and this brings me back to wedding dresses, you can look all you want on Google and you might have an idea on what you 100% want, but, I have seen enough episodes of 'Say Yes To The Dress' to know that the professionals know so much more about wedding dresses, the shapes, the cuts and the styles to perfectly match you to your dream wedding dress than a Google search will ever tell you.
All this brings me to Chole and Alex (yep twins!) along with (Mum) Jane, who runs the stunning Bridal Suite in Woodthorpe in sunny Nottingham.
The Bridal Suite is an appointment-only bridal dress boutique giving you space, privacy and undivided attention to help find you your own bridal style at your own pace, whether on your own or with your bridal dress shopping crew.
I have photographed many Brides who have found their perfect wedding dress thanks to the girls at the Bridal Suite, and a happy Bride is a perfect endorsement for the help and advice the girls provide not only in picking your wedding dress but being there to help right up to the wedding day.
I asked Chloe and Alex to put together their top tips and advice for helping Brides-To-Be pick their wedding dress - here is what the girls had to say
TOP 5 TIPS FOR PICKING YOUR PERFECT WEDDING DRESS
Wedding dress shopping can be quite a daunting process, it’s something the majority of us have never done before. Will the gowns suit me? Will I like anything? What if what I think should suit me doesn’t? Will the gowns fit me? These are all questions you may have before stepping into our wedding dress boutique.
WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING TIP 1 - DON’T FEEL PRESSURED INTO IT!
Don’t feel pressured into it! – We believe you can't be sold or pressured into buying a gown, you should know whether the gown is right or not by how you feel, your reaction and by how you stand.
If you need to have a think and sleep on it, make sure you take that time away as it will make sure you have made the right decision and you won’t have any doubts during your fittings!
WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING TIP 2 - TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Try something that is ‘everything you don’t want’ – sometimes that can be the gown length, colour, style, sleeves vs. no sleeves. What we expect to suit us may not and vice versa, so try something a little bit different - it may surprise you!
WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING TIP 3 - DO YOUR RESEARCH
Make sure you do a little research before starting your wedding dress journey, spend some time on our website to make sure you like the designers we stock, the gowns and the styles.
We have a great feature on our website that helps you to collate all of your favourite gowns together on a ‘Love List’, this really makes sure you make the most of your time in the boutique as we can go straight to your list and bring out the gowns that you have added to your wedding dress 'Love List'.
WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING TIP 4 - LEAVE ENOUGH TIME
Typically Gowns take 8-9 months to arrive and to get altered by our in-house seamstress. Don’t leave it until last minute, start shopping a year before your wedding and say yes to the dress without any stress!
WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING TIP 5 - ENJOY THE JOURNEY
Enjoy yourself - make the most of your bridal dress journey surrounded by your family and friends. Have fun, enjoy it, take lots of pictures and make sure to tag us in! #BridalSuiteBride we love seeing all our Brides on their wedding day!
