TORTWORTH COURT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
2024 is the year of many firsts for me, the year where I get to photograph many weddings at new (to me) wedding venues, and in this blog, we are off to Bristol for the wedding of Vicky & Ash, who were married at the end of April 2024 at Tortworth Court in South Gloucestershire, so let’s jump in and have a look at some of my favourite wedding images from the day.
The wedding morning began with Vicky, her mum, and her bridesmaids getting ready in the Teulon Suite—a beautiful, high-ceilinged room where stunning windows cast pockets of soft, contrasty light.
The image above captures a quiet moment just after Vicky was helped into her wedding dress and moments before I made my way to the Orangery for the ceremony.
The Orangery at Tortworth Court is easily one of the most breathtaking ceremony spaces I’ve had the privilege of photographing, and a major reason for that is the beautifully diffused light.
With wedding ceremonies, there’s often something I wish I could tweak—harsh lighting on the couple, a distracting background element, or limited space at the front preventing me from moving freely. But on this day, in this venue, everything was just right.
Now, let’s geek out over the shot of Vicky and her mum walking down the aisle. In the gallery below, you’ll also see images of the bridesmaids making their entrance. I always use these moments as my ‘confirmation of composition’—essentially, they serve as test shots to ensure that when the bride makes her grand entrance, my angles and framing are perfectly dialed in.
For the bridesmaids, I captured my standard, centered shots. But for Vicky’s walk down the aisle, I wanted something more focused—an image free from distractions like wedding guests and mobile phones. The spacious layout of the Orangery allowed me to shift slightly to my left, cropping out unnecessary elements and drawing all attention to the most important part of the frame: Vicky and her mum, sharing a beautiful and emotional moment together.
The ceremony was filled with emotion, with Ash getting overwhelmed a few times during the vows—but he made it through the legal bits. The image above captures their first kiss using my favorite wide lens (Sony 20mm F1.8), offering a stunning view of the Orangery and the joyful reactions of guests clapping in celebration.
After the ceremony, with the rain and wind from the morning having moved, we all went outside into the central garden at Tortworth Court to deal with the chaos of the confetti run.
After a quick stop in the Brunel Suite for drinks and canapés, guests made their way back to the Orangery for the wedding breakfast and speeches. And for the first time in 2024, the bride—Vicky—kicked things off with the first speech. I absolutely loved it!
As you'll see in the main gallery below, Vicky and Ash chose to forgo a traditional first dance in front of their guests. Instead, they treated everyone to a cocktail and raised a toast before the band kicked off the evening.
However, once the band had finished their sound check, we slipped into the Orangery for a quiet, private first dance—just the two of them, in a beautifully intimate moment.
When turned around for the evening, the Orangery is a (again) stunning place; the string lights and the lights around the trees give the room a lovely look and feel, and if you have a great band, it all adds up to a great wedding reception venue.

And there it is—my first wedding at Tortworth Court, and what an incredible experience it was with Vicky and Ash.
Vicky knew exactly what she wanted, which is why she chose me. They didn’t want to worry about managing their photographer on the day—they simply let me do my thing. The result? A stunning collection of wedding images, some of which you’ll find in the gallery below.
