ALL SAINTS CHURCH, RIPLEY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Julia and David - what a wedding, we had everything - goats, swords and a cake on a JCB!
My day started over at the Purple Palace in Matlock (premier Inn for those who don’t know about the purple palace); Julia was getting ready nice and early and so an overnight stay was needed.
Julia had booked a lovely Air BnB cottage with stunning views overlooking the Derbyshire Dales for her and her friends to stay the night before the wedding and somewhere to crash after the wedding.
With a 12 pm ceremony it was all go from about 9 am, with different friends having their hair and make-up done at specific times, it was a military operation to ensure that everyone was ready at the right time.
The wedding was an emotional one, form the start of the day until the end of the day. A series of images which I was blessed to be able to capture was of Julia and her Uncle, Felix, sharing an emotional moment once Julia was in her wedding dress.
The All Saints Church in Ripley was the location of the wedding ceremony, in my first full year of wedding photography in 2017, I had the pleasure of photographing in the same Church, I was excited to see the old place again.
With David in the Navy, officer suits were a must, and so was the sword’s, but more of that later on.
The wedding ceremony was nicely done, and very personal to both Julia, and especially David who’s Church this is. Once the legals were completed it was time for the walk back down the aisle as a newly married couple.
Whilst Julia and David waited in the Church, the family and friends waited patiently outside with their confetti, but first, it was time for the traditional military sword salute.
Most people, when it comes to throwing the confetti over the bride and groom, take the confetti out of the packet first before they throw the confetti, but for one of Julia’s best friends, he decided to hit David squarely in the face a funny moment, but I’m not sure David thought the same.
Julia didn't want to wait to long at the Church; she was eager for everyone to head over to David’s family farm and enjoy the unique DIY wedding that Julia had planned and worked hard to create.
I was amazed at the work that had been put in to turn the family farm into a full-on wedding reception venue, it truly was spectacular in the vision and the execution of the ideas.
Once everyone had arrived and found their seats, it was time for the wedding speeches - 1 hour 45 mins of speeches, now you might think that this would be far too long for wedding speeches, but it went so quickly as everyone doing a speech had funny stories or emotional ones to tell.
The early evening kicked off with the traditional cake cut on a non-traditional JCB… another unique idea which worked so well, and obvs made sense to cut the cake with a sword.
After the cake cut came the first dance, which was in the central courtyard of the farm, and the music was provided by a Big Band who played the first dance song and rocked the rest of the night as the sunset.
SOME KIND WORDS FROM JULIA & DAVID
