THE WOODMAN INN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

The Woodman Inn Wedding Photography - Bride and groom exchanging rings during their wedding ceremony in the garden room

Welcome to a new wedding blog here on the HQ website! For this celebration, I travelled up to one of my favourite parts of the country—Yorkshire, a place I know well from years of hiking and walking.

Freya and Will booked me as their Yorkshire wedding photographer because they wanted their day to be all about celebrating with family and friends. They requested just four formal family photos and a single portrait of themselves, making time with loved ones their top priority. It was another perfect wedding for my relaxed, natural wedding photography style!

My day started with the bridal party getting ready in the newly refurbished Thunderbridge Suite—a charming cottage just a few steps from the Woodman Inn and its beautiful Garden Room, where the wedding ceremony would be held.

The morning was buzzing with energy: five bridesmaids, two makeup artists, Mum, and me all tucked into the cosy cottage, creating the perfect atmosphere for candid, intimate wedding morning photos.

Before long, Freya headed upstairs to slip into her wedding dress with her mum’s help. Just minutes later, she was ready for the big reveal—walking back down to surprise her bridesmaids with a moment full of smiles, laughter, and happy tears.

The wedding ceremony was short, sweet, and beautifully simple—just how Freya and Will wanted it. They chose a straightforward civil wedding ceremony at the Woodman Inn’s Garden Room, with no readings or extra vows, just the essentials. It was all about the moment, no fuss, no frills—perfect for a relaxed Yorkshire wedding.

After the ceremony, Freya and Will spent time mingling with their guests in the beautiful grounds of the Woodman Inn. This is one of my absolute favourite parts of a wedding day—it’s when the newlyweds are surrounded by family and friends, sharing hugs, laughter, and happy tears. These natural, unposed moments are exactly why I love relaxed wedding photography, capturing genuine connections that tell the real story of the day.

After capturing the four requested family formal photos and a quick couple’s portrait in the woodland near the Garden Room at the Woodman Inn, it was time to head inside for the wedding breakfast and the much-anticipated speeches.

Freya’s dad kicked things off, and with an overhead projector set up, I knew someone was about to be in the firing line. Sure enough, Will was treated to a slideshow of childhood photos showcasing some truly memorable hair and fashion choices.

Will followed with a short but heartfelt groom’s speech, keeping it simple and sincere. Then the best man stepped up, and once again, poor Will found himself the star of the show—cue another round of good-natured embarrassment, much to the guests’ delight.

The evening celebrations kicked off with Freya and Will’s first dance in the Garden Room at the Woodman Inn, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. It didn’t take long for guests to flood the dance floor, and from that moment on, the party was non-stop. As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of receptions—but this was easily one of the liveliest dance floors I’ve photographed in years. The Yorkshire crowd really does know how to party!

WOODMAN INN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I absolutely loved returning to Yorkshire, and photographing Freya and Will’s wedding was an absolute joy. From our very first chats, it was clear—they wanted to spend their wedding day truly living in the moment, without endless posing or direction. Their final wedding gallery perfectly reflects that vision, filled with fun, laughter, and genuine, unscripted moments with their closest family and friends.

This was my first time capturing a wedding at The Woodman Inn in West Yorkshire, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. The venue’s charm, the warm atmosphere, and the incredible guests made it a day to remember. If you’re planning your wedding at The Woodman Inn and want relaxed, natural, and candid wedding photography that tells the real story of your day, I’d love to hear from you!
