THE MILL AT HOVERINGHAM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Gen and Mikey didn’t want too much fuss on their wedding day—they wanted their family and friends to enjoy the day without being told what to do or when, which perfectly suited my style as a documentary wedding photographer.
My day began 45 minutes before the wedding ceremony at St. Stephen’s Church in Sneinton, Nottingham. This gave me a chance to capture those quiet, behind-the-scenes moments before everything kicked off.
Gen arrived in style with her dad in a converted old split-screen VW Camper—a stunning wedding car with a special meaning to her and her dad. The family has always owned VW California’s, but none quite as significant as this one, which added a personal touch to the day.
The ceremony was incredibly special for many reasons. Not only was Mikey’s dad the Priest-in-Charge at St. Stephen’s Church, but Mikey’s granddad—who had traveled all the way from Ireland—was the one conducting the marriage ceremony. It made the whole event even more meaningful and emotional.
After the wedding ceremony and Gen and Mikey being showered with confetti, it was time for a quick refreshment break inside the church with some cakes and drinks. The perfect way to celebrate the newlyweds before everyone made their way to The Mill at Hoveringham for the wedding reception.
The Mill at Hoveringham is a newly opened wedding venue, nestled in the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside. It’s only a stone’s throw away from one of my regular dog walking routes down by the River Trent, making it a familiar and lovely spot for me to photograph weddings.
After a few quick drinks and a couple of family formals, it was time for the first part of the speeches inside the smaller barn.
The wedding breakfast took place in the large barn, a vast, open space that was perfect for the number of guests Gen and Mikey had for their reception. It created a beautiful, spacious setting for everyone to gather and celebrate.
Gen and Mikey booked me for four hours of coverage for their wedding day, and it turned out to be the perfect amount of time to capture all the key moments—from guest arrivals at the church, the wedding ceremony, cakes and drinks at the church, and up to the end of the wedding breakfast at The Mill at Hoveringham.
I hope the gallery below demonstrates just what’s possible with short, four-hour wedding photography coverage—it’s amazing what can be captured in that time when you focus on the important moments!
