THE HALL BARNS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Freya and Alex were married at the Hall Barns, which is situated on the Prestwold Estate in Leicestershire, this was my first visit to The Hall Barns and I knew from the wedding plans that it was going to be fun, with a twist!
BRIDE GETTING READY AT LAUNDRY COTTAGE
My day began with a few shots of the venue. I like to arrive early, as it often means the space is still quiet, allowing me to capture the decor and all the little wedding details without any distractions. (Scroll to the bottom of the page to see some venue images!)
Once I had my setup shots, I made my way to the Laundry Cottage, where Freya and her family were getting ready. Conveniently located just a short walk from The Hall Barns, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxed wedding morning.
When I arrived, Freya was mid-makeup, and after a few friendly hellos, I got straight to work. The morning had a wonderfully calm atmosphere, with everything running perfectly on schedule. Before we knew it, Freya was in her dress, hopping onto the golf cart, and heading to the venue—ready to say 'I do'!
WALKING DOWN THE AISLE
The image above is one of my favorites from Freya and Alex’s wedding day at The Hall Barns—the little glance between Freya and her dad just before they took that emotional walk down the aisle.
I especially love it when couples lock eyes at the end of the aisle. So often, nerves take over, and brides walk down with their heads down, not smiling or making eye contact. But not Freya—she walked with confidence, head up, smiling, and looking straight at Alex as she reached the end of the aisle. A truly beautiful moment.
THE WEDDING CEREMONY AT HALL BARNS
The wedding ceremony at The Hall Barns took place in the Crew Yard, creating a beautiful and intimate setting for Freya and Alex’s vows. As is tradition with the Leicester registrars, the witnesses were invited to stand at the front for part of the ceremony, ensuring they could truly ‘witness’ the couple exchanging their legal vows.
Freya and Alex wanted to keep things short and sweet, focusing on what mattered most—celebrating with their family and friends. With the formalities done in no time, they were free to enjoy the rest of their special day exactly as they had planned.
THE WEDDING SPEECHES AT THE HALL BARNS
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed canapés, drinks, and a few garden games before we all headed inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches.
One of the things I love about The Hall Barns is its relaxed, intimate atmosphere. It’s not your typical ‘traditional’ wedding venue—it’s cozy, ideal for weddings of 50-75 guests, and allows couples to put their own spin on the day, including the food. Freya and Alex embraced this, opting for a bit of a meat feast—homemade sausage rolls, pork steaks, crackling—it all looked incredible!
Keeping with the theme of doing things their way, the speeches were simple and heartfelt. Instead of the usual lineup, it was just Alex and Freya’s best friend, Bethan, sharing a few words—no embarrassing stories, just thoughtful ‘thank yous’ and touching memories of each other.
THE FIRST DANCE AND A SURPRISE!
I had been given a heads-up that there was going to be a surprise performance during the evening entertainment—and that the first dance wasn’t really a first dance at all, but rather the setup for something special!
As Freya and Alex started their ‘first dance,’ the music was suddenly interrupted, and in walked Heidi Wurst. She was absolutely brilliant, bringing so much energy and laughter to the evening. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw so many people in stitches at a wedding! It was the perfect way to kick off the night, and you can see all the fun in the main gallery below.
I absolutely loved Freya and Alex’s wedding at The Hall Barns. What made it so special was their focus on celebrating with their loved ones rather than spending hours posing for traditional family photos. They wanted their images to be authentic—true to the day they had planned—and it was a joy to capture those real, unscripted moments.
