Welcome to my final wedding of 2024—and what a way to end the year!

Steph and Craig tied the knot in late November during one of the windiest storms I can remember, and despite the chaos outside, their day at Hodsock Priory was nothing short of unforgettable.

As a documentary wedding photographer based in Nottinghamshire, I’m used to working around unpredictable British weather—but this one was definitely up there! The day began in the Bridal Room at Hodsock Priory, where I joined Steph and her bridesmaids as they got ready. The atmosphere was calm and fun, with a few emotional moments as Steph stepped into her dress, helped by her mum and the girls.

The ceremony took place in the Panelled Hall, an atmospheric space that looked incredible with the roaring fire (though I nearly roasted myself squeezing in to capture some of the emotional moments up close!). The bridal party led the way down the aisle, followed by Steph and her dad—until halfway down, she switched arms and continued walking with her stepdad. It was a beautiful, heartfelt gesture that perfectly reflected the closeness of her family.

The ceremony was beautifully executed, though a bit warm—the roaring fire almost singed my bum as I squeezed my way in to capture the emotional moments in the Panelled Hall.

After a warm and emotional ceremony, the couple signed the register and were ready for the big confetti moment. But thanks to the gale-force winds outside, Hodsock Priory gave the green light for an indoor confetti throw in the Panelled Hall—my first one ever inside, and it turned out brilliantly.

Following a bit of mingling, we gathered for some relaxed family formals indoors, and then made a quick dash outside during a rare break in the wind for a few couples portraits in the beautiful gardens of Hodsock.

The wedding breakfast followed, and then came the speeches—starting with Craig’s dad, who delivered a truly emotional toast that led to one of my favourite wedding speech moments of the year: a candid embrace between father and son that perfectly summed up what I aim to capture with my relaxed, documentary wedding photography approach.

After dinner, it was time for the evening celebrations to begin. Steph and Craig skipped the traditional cake and opted for a cheese tower cut instead (a brilliant touch!). Then came the first dance—or in their case, something a little different. With Pulp Fiction projected in the background, they recreated the iconic dance scene from the film, and it went down a storm.

Steph and Craig’s wedding at Hodsock Priory was the perfect way to wrap up a brilliant year of weddings. A little weather drama, lots of love, and plenty of those unposed, genuine moments that make this job so rewarding.
